Stephen Colbert Returns to TV One Day After Ending Late-Night Show

Stephen Colbert wasted no time getting back on television. Less than 24 hours after saying goodbye to The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the longtime host made a surprise return to TV—this time in Monroe, Michigan. Appearing on Only in Monroe on May 22, Stephen jokingly addressed viewers by saying it had been an “excruciating 23 hours” since he was last on television. He also poked fun at the current media landscape, joking that he was grateful to appear on Monroe Community Media “before they also get acquired by Paramount.” During the hour-long appearance, Stephen welcomed guests including Jack White and Jeff Daniels, while fellow Michigan natives Steve Buscemi and Eminem made pre-taped cameos. The surprise appearance may have shocked fans, but Stephen actually hinted at it during his final Late Show episode, recalling starting out on the public access TV show in Monroe and that it might be where audiences would see him next.
