Olympics 2024 LIVE: Latest updates and medal outcomes from Paris

Team GB’s winning dive as they secure first medal of Paris Olympics

The Olympics delivers a first full day of action at Paris 2024 on Saturday after a memorable opening ceremony.

Team GB earned its first medal of the Games after Yasmin Harper and Scarlett Mew Jensen claimed diving bronze in dramatic circumstances, winning Britain’s first medal in the women’s diving in 64 years. Other medals available to Team GB will come in road cycling, where Anna Henderson and Josh Tarling compete in the individual time trial event, on a wet course in Paris.

The swimming takes centre stage this evening with Team GB’s focus is on Adam Peaty as he bids to win three consecutive 100m breastroke Olympic gold medals. But the race of the day, and perhaps the meet, puts Katie Ledecky, Ariarne Titmus and Summer McIntosh against each other in the women’s 400m freestyle.

Also look out for Rafael Nadal, fresh from starring in Friday night’s opening ceremony, with the Spaniard partnering Carlos Alcaraz in the men’s doubles as tennis begins at Roland Garros.

Another fall! Belgian rider Kopecky, the world road race champion has crashed and come off her bike!

That will not have helped her time and she had been the quickest in the first sector.

Excitement has turned to unrest, this French crowd has built itself up into a feverish mood awaiting France and South Africa, the big semi-final is NEXT!

Allez Les Bleus rings around the stadium, then a hushed silence. Murmurings around the Stade de France as the Springboks are announced.

Now the French team announced, a deafening noise as the surname of each French player is bellowed back out. France is ready, here we go!

Knibb is over the line, she goes into second place, and it might just be a case of what could have been.

She did not look happy when she finished.

Lach of Poland is the time to beat with 43:03:43.

The 38-year-old Baker still has it, bursting through Ireland and dancing around the posts for the score. The Eagles lead 14-7.

Baker now has six tries at the Games, a remarkable impact at his age.

The upset is on and Ireland have just two minutes remaining to salvage this situation.

But Ward capitalises on smart line-out play from the Irish, backtracking at the last minute and he gets over, but the conversion isn’t there.

Now then, the crowd sense something a bit special, Terry Kennedy in space, looking to offload, but he’ll go alone falling down and snatching victory for the Irish, 17-14.

Matthew Ebden will be glad this match was only a best of three sets rather than five. The Australian was totally outclassed by Djokovic, winning in straight sets and dispatching his opponent expeditiously, the whole match lasting just 53 minutes.

A sizeable crowd inside the Court Philippe-Chatrier rallied around the underdog, powering their unlikely hero to a game win which will have meant far more to the Australian than any of Djokovic’s twelve.

The match may as well have been a training session for the Serb, who navigated coolly through the afternoon, producing four aces and just ten unforced errors.

The win sets up one half of the equation for a round two match against his long-time rival Rafael Nadal, another clay court legend.

“I am really glad that this match went the way it did, but I am sorry for Matthew. He told me at the net that it was his first singles match in two years,” Djokovic said following the match. “For me it is a great win and it is fantastic to see a full house from day one at this tournament.”

“There is a great hype around [the potential round two match against Nadal]. That one can be a blockbuster, it is one of the events that a lot of people at the Olympics are looking forward to. I am ready for it and looking forward to our last dance, so to say, on this court.”

The British rider Anna Henderson has just started.

She has had to come back from two broken collarbones this season, but now her race is underway, and she will want to be careful to avoid the falls that other riders have suffered.

We also have our first time as well, just over 45 minutes from a Slovenian rider who was the first on the track.

And a new fastest time from the only Afghanistan rider Farida Hashimi of 44:29:13.

Ireland really pushing to break this game open after snatching an early 7-0 lead.

But there’s a glimpse of the USA biting back, with the crowd left gutted after Perry Baker mistimes his run with the Irish line broken.

But Cummings does break through, that’s serious speed, the hurdle demonstrates his athleticism too and this one is all square after a tidy conversion. The crowd really into this one now. 7-7 at the break.

Taylor Knibb has a third fall! These roads must be so slippery.

She now has a puncture, the mechanic running over with the new bike has gone flying, this could not be more chaotic for the American rider.

The reporter towards the finish line has just been pointing out a number of white lines ahead of a turn that will be affecting their grip.

Knibb has just been shown with a nasty cut around her knee, that will not be good ahead of her triathlon in just a few days’ time.

TRY! Andrew Knewstubb with the decisive score and the All Blacks emerge victorious.

Crushing for Argentina, who had battled back so well.

But some smart interplay and the perfect dummy from Knewstubb was enough to break the Pumas in extra-time. Next up… USA v Ireland!

And we have just seen a first glimpse of just how difficult this course is in the wet conditions, Danish rider Ludwig has just come off her bike trying to go round a corner.

It slid from underneath her around a roundabout and she had to pick herself up and get back on. She did so immediately so seems to be okay, but that might just shake her a bit going forwards!

And Knibb, the American rider and triathlete and one of the favourites has also just come off at exactly the same point!

Knibb falls again almost immediately! A second fall for the American, she had a lead of over 30 seconds at the first check, but that will have cost her.
