Doctors are fighting to save the life of Slovakia’s prime minister Robert Fico. He was shot five times in what the government is calling a politically motivated assassination attempt. The 59-year-old populist pro-Russia premier is undergoing emergency surgery. Doctors say his condition is critical. Slovakia’s president has called it a ‘brutal and reckless’ attack. Other national leaders have condemned the shooting. A suspect was arrested at the scene.
