Germany: Tesla plant protesters to spend week in forest

Environmental activists protesting the enlargement of US electrical carmaker Tesla’s manufacturing unit outdoors Berlin stated they plan to occupy the forest close to the manufacturing unit for every week. 

“The longer the occupation lasts, the better,” a spokeswoman for the “Stop Tesla” initiative stated Friday.

The occupation of the wooded space in Grünheide, close to Berlin, started late on Wednesday night time. The protesters have constructed round a dozen treehouses a number of meters above the bottom.

What do protesters need?

The protesters stated their aim is to stop the clearing of the forest for a Tesla enlargement mission. The electrical automotive maker needs to construct a freight station, warehouses and an organization kindergarten subsequent to the prevailing 300-hectare manufacturing unit website. More than 100 hectares of forest must be cleared. 

In February, a majority of Grünheide residents voted towards the present enlargement plans in a nonbinding ballot. Tesla then introduced additional talks on the difficulty.

“We are open to dialogue, but we will not be forced out of the forest,” stated a spokesman for the protest group, which is supported by an area residents’ initiative.

Police tolerate protests
