Apple released the latest 14-inch MacBook Pro with the powerful M5 chip last October, but has already been discounted a few times. Right now, the 1TB version is back down to $1,499 (originally $1,699), matching its lowest price ever according to price tracking tools. Lifehacker’s Senior Tech Editor Jake Peterson calls it “a ridiculously good value.”
To be honest, this laptop is overkill for most people. The M4 MacBook Air (itself recently supplanted by the M5 MacBook Air) is a more than capable laptop and will get the job done for around $1,000. But for those who need that extra oomph for media editing or complex programming, the MacBook Pro is worth every penny. It was Apple’s first laptop with its M5 chip, which offers significant upgrades to the M4 in many respects, including graphics performance. PCMag says this laptop is so powerful that you can play most games without issues in its “outstanding” review.
What do you think so far?
In addition to performance improvements over the Air, the Pro model has a fan, which the MacBook Air lacks. This should help keep the machine’s temperature down and prevent performance slowdowns. In short, this is currently one of the best laptops Apple has to offer, and this is likely the best price you’ll see on it for some time.
