Bones break and blood flies throughout The Man from Nowhere‘s excellently, and uniquely, choreographed combat scenes. While the film takes itself significantly, there is a playfulness to the motion sequences that generally places us, the viewers, in the midst of the motion…nearly actually. Cha Tae-sik (Won Bin) is a quiet man operating a pawnshop—or, at the very least, that is what he appears (John Wick did not invent this trope). Tae-sik is a former undercover agent and, when a legal group realizes it, they kidnap his younger good friend and her mom with the intention to pressure the person to run medicine for them. He doesn’t take this calmly.
