Why the Syrian army cannot resist the rebels as they advance on town of Hama | DW News

Opposition activitists in Syria say insurgents are pushing ahead with their offensive against government forces, capturing more
towns and closing in on the city of Hama. State troops say they’ve retaken some territory lost in last week’s surprise attack, when the alliance of rebel groups took the country’s second city, Aleppo. The United Nations says nearly 50,000 people have been displaced by the latest fighting.

For more on this, we talk to Fabrice Balanche. He is an associate professor and research director at the University of Lyon, where he specializes in the geopolitics of the Middle East.

And we are joined in the studio by DW’s Gasia Ohanes, who grew up in Aleppo and has reported extensively for us on the Syrian crisis.
