Transfer information LIVE: Man United near £62.5m signing and Liverpool determine new striker
The transfer window is almost open with the Club World Cup opening up an emergency, short-term window, though other clubs not involved in the new Fifa tournament are pushing ahead with plans to strengthen this summer.
Manchester United have an awful lot of work to do in the window after a disastrous season, and Matheus Cunha appears to be the first one through the door, with Wolves set to bank more than £60m for the Brazilian forward.
Liverpool are ready to go from strength to strength after winning the Premier League title, with a new striker top of their priorities to push Cody Gakpo. And after links to Alexander Isak, the Swede is now poised to stay at Newcastle United after securing Champions League football next season.
A new name could be Hugo Ekitike, who is also a Chelsea target, with the Eintracht Frankfurt striker one of the hottest properties in European football.

Chelsea and Arsenal interested in Gyokeres
Miguel Delaney reported yesterday that both Chelsea and Arsenal have expressed an interest in Sporting Lisbon’s Victor Gyokeres, although Enzo Maresca’s side are focusing their attention on the hunt for French striker Hugo Ekitike’s signature.
Semedo could join Cunha in move to Man Utd
Man United could get two Wolves players for the price of one this summer, with the club expressing interest in signing Nelson Semedo when the right-back’s contract expires on 30 June.
Football Transfers reported the club are keen for more back-up at right-back, and his availability to move on a free transfer would be a significant help given United are strapped for cash.
Five top targets Liverpool could sign this summer
With Liverpool preparing for a recruitment drive this summer, here are five players that could be targeted:
Jeremie Frimpong, Bayer Leverkusen
Right, this isn’t exactly a potential target. Frimpong, 24, is on the verge of a move to Anfield on a five-year deal and looks nailed on to be Liverpool’s response to losing current right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Dutchman is an attacking-minded wing-back who has thrived at Bayer Leverkusen in Xabi Alonso’s system, playing an integral part to their unbeaten domestic in 2023/24.
Florian Wirtz, Bayer Leverkusen
Another superstar of Alonso’s Leverkusen side, attacking midfielder Wirtz, 22, has been attracting the attention of Europe’s biggest hitters for some time now. Leverkusen reportedly want a staggering €100m (£84m) for their prized possession, which may have scared Manchester City off. Bayern Munich are also said to be in the race for the German, who has notched 16 goals and 15 assists in all competition this season.
Milos Kerkez, Bournemouth
Kerkez has starred for the Cherries this season and seems to have been picked out as the rightful heir to Andy Robertson at left-back. Liverpool are said to be in talks with Kerkez, 21, who could be about to join Hungarian countryman Dominik Szoboszlai at Anfield. The marauding defender fits Slot’s system well and could be valued at £45m.
Angelo Stiller, Stuttgart
Liverpool have found joy when fishing at the Stuttgart well for defensive midfielders before. They will hope highly-rated German star Stiller, 24, will follow in Wataru Endo’s suit and swap the MHP Arena for Merseyside. The former Bayern Munich prospect has been at the heart of their midfield for the past two seasons and helped Stuttgart qualify for the Champions League in 2023/24.
Julian Alvarez, Atletico Madrid
Ex-Manchester City forward Alvarez proved his worth as a top talent at the Etihad – but it’s since he ditched being second fiddle to Erling Haaland that the Argentinian has truly taken off. He’s enjoyed an impressive year since his £82m switch to Atletico Madrid last summer, scoring 29 goals and providing six assists in all competitions. His form may have peaked the interest of Liverpool, who are in the market for forward reinforcements. Darwin Nunez plus cash swap deal, perhaps?
Kang-in Lee contract talks stall
PSG have hit a roadblock in negotiations over a contract renewal for South Korean star Kang-in Lee, according to Matteo Moretto.
English clubs are said to be interested in Lee, but face competition from Spanish and Saudi outfits.

Bruno Fernandes given ’72 hours’ to decide on Al-Hilal offer
Bruno Fernandes has been sent a proposal by Al-Hilal and will reportedly have 72 hours to decide whether he accepts or not.
This is according to the Daily Mail, who say the offer sits at £700k-per-week for up to three years.
Al-Hilal are also said to have lodged a £100m bid to Manchester United directly.

Where does Antony go from here?
Antony has enjoyed something of a rejuvenation since moving to Real Betis on loan in January. However, he could yet return to the Man United fold when his spell comes to an end this summer.
The Brazilian has also been touted with a move back to Spain, with Atletico Madrid reportedly interested.

Newcastle sporting director leaves
Newcastle are parting ways with sporting director Paul Mitchell after less than a year in the job, according to Sky Sports.
The 43-year-old will exit the club at the end of the month and leave manager Eddie Howe in charge of recruitment until the club find a successor.

Man City targeting Belgian Pro League player of the season
Manchester City have added Club Brugge defensive midfielder Ardon Jashari to their list of targets for the summer, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The 22-year-old is valued at approximately £30m.

Man United hold talks with Mbeumo
Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo over a £50m summer move.
That’s according to talkSPORT, who suggest he is also attracting interest from Newcastle.
This comes after Ruben Amorim revealed that his side can’t be too active in the transfer market due to Financial Fair Play.

Where next for Ronaldo?
Cristiano Ronaldo is on his way out of Al-Nassr and may be eyeing a move that allows him to play in the inaugural Club World Cup next month.
This could lead him to joining fierce city rivals Al-Hilal, who are competing in the tournament.
Fifa president Gianni Infantino has not ruled out the Portuguese superstar from being involved in the United States, saying: “Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup, yeah. There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup… who knows, who knows.”
The event poses potentially one final opportunity for Ronaldo to faceoff against Lionel Messi, with Inter Miami a participant.
