Tottenham vs Nottingham Forest LIVE: Team information as guests proceed top-four push in Premier League

Nottingham Forest will hope to return to form as they continue their chase for a Champions League place with a trip to Tottenham Hotspur.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have been the Premier League’s surprise package in this campaign but have had their chances of a top-five finish imperilled by consecutive league defeats. With an FA Cup semi-final to come next weekend, Forest will hope to produce a strong end to the season and ensure a campaign to remember translates into truly tangible success.

Spurs are also still in the hunt for a trophy, though domestic matters are now clearly not the priority after an impressive Europa League win in midweek. Victory at Eintracht Frankfurt has staved off the sack for Ange Postecoglou – perhaps temporarily – but their lowly place in the Premier League is a matter that the Australian will wish to improve.

Almost time for kickoff

Ten minutes to go at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Can Spurs build on their euphoric Europa League quarter-final win in midweek? Or will Forest bounce back from their last-gasp defeat to Everton to renew their bid for Champions League qualification?

‘I’m loving every minute’ – Ange Postecoglou

“I keep saying to people, I’m loving every minute mate,” Ange Postecoglou tells Sky Sports when asked whether he still enjoys the job.

“I get there’s a lot of noise. I’ve probably filtered it so that only maybe 25 per cent of that gets through. That’s still annoying and not enjoyable, but it’s only 25 per cent.

“The rest of it I still love. I love working with these players and the challenge of overcoming the odds.”

‘Nobody expected us to be here’ – Chris Wood

“We know we have put ourselves in a good position going into the last six games of the season. What we can do is control what happens on the pitch,” Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood tells Sky Sports.

“Nobody expected us to be here so why not go ahead and take it on with both hands? We have a great challenge ahead of us and that is something we are really up for.

“We just need to implement what we have done in the other 30 odd games of the season. Focus on showing our abilities and what we can control on the pitch.”

How the table stands

Not too long ago Spurs were in the top half of the table and frequently qualifying for Europe, while Forest were battling to stave off relegation.

But the tables have turned quite dramatically this season: Forest are sixth, firmly in the mix for Europe – although having had a slight dip in performance recently – while Tottenham are 16th in the top flight and just one point ahead of 17th-placed West Ham.

A win today for either side would take Forest up to third, or Spurs up to 13th. A draw would also see Spurs leapfrog fellow strugglers Manchester United – now there’s a sentence – as a result of their superior goal difference.

Nuno Espirito Santo surprised by Tottenham’s struggles

Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo admits he is surprised by Tottenham’s Premier League struggles this season.

Spurs, who the Portuguese managed for five months in 2020, are currently on course for their lowest ever Premier League position as they sit in 16th ahead of Forest’s visit.

It has been a season full of surprises, with Forest launching a Champions League qualification bid, which looks like going down to the wire.

Tottenham’s struggles have been particularly eyebrow-raising, though, with beleaguered boss Ange Postecoglou being kept alive by their Europa League chances.

Nuno said: “I think this season there are things that were not expected, and the Spurs situation is clearly one of them.

“All the teams have problems, some more than others. I’m not deeply informed on the Spurs situation, but we are talking about a big club full of talented players.

“They have a good manager that in previous seasons did fantastically well. It happens, and it’s happened to many teams.”

Premier League guaranteed fifth Champions League spot after Arsenal beat Real Madrid

Nottingham Forest have slumped to sixth in the top flight but are level on points with both Chelsea in fifth and Aston Villa in seventh.

Arsenal’s 3-0 win over Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final guaranteed the Premier League a fifth spot in the Champions League next season, so Forest’s task of trying to get back into those spots has become a little easier.

A much-changed Spurs side

As expected, Ange Postecoglou has shuffled his side from their win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday night with one eye firmly on Europe.

Richarlison gets his first start since 6 February, with Dominic Solanke and Brennan Johnson dropping to the bench. Wilson Odobert comes into the forward line while Djed Spence replaces Destiny Udogie at left-back.

In midfield, Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski are in for Lucas Bergvall and James Maddison, presumably a precaution after his heavy clash with Kaua Santos on Thursday.

Three changes for the visitors after their last-gasp defeat to Everton.

Fit-again Anthony Elanga replaces Jota Silva up front, while Danilo and Harry Toffolo come in for Alex Moreno and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Taiwo Awoniyi is on the bench after missing the last two games with a hamstring issue.

Team news – Tottenham

James Maddison is on the bench for the hosts after coming off shortly before half-time against Eintracht Frankfurt.

Son Heung-Min, as expected, isn’t in the squad as he manages a foot injury.
