After 54 years on the air, ‘The Price Is Right’ is testing out a new format, airing in a live special this holiday season hosted by Drew Carey. The one-hour special marks the first time the series will be going live in over five decades. Drew Carey will continue his hosting duties for the live special, with CBS Entertainment president Amy Reisenbach saying at CBS’ recent fall schedule announcement, per Variety, they “would never not do it without him.” As for what’s in store for the live special? “They’ve got some really fun ideas that they’re going to implement to bring the audience into that live experience,” she continued. “I think the prizes are what brings people in, the joy of seeing people win.
