Social Media Reacts To Matt Gaetz Withdrawing From AG Nomination
Matt Gaetz’ decision to withdraw his bid to be Donald Trump’s attorney general aroused a lot of attention online on Thursday.
Gaetz announced his decision on social media, saying only that “it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction,” without getting into specifics.
On Wednesday, The New York Times released a report detailing the thousands of dollars in payments Gaetz allegedly made to women in exchange for sex. And on Thursday, minutes after Gaetz announced his decision, CNN published a bombshell story detailing testimony from a woman who said she had two sexual encounters with Gaetz when she was 17.
Donald Trump didn’t bring up the allegations in a Truth Social post commenting on Gaetz’ decision, saying only that former congressman “was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect.”
Other people on social media weren’t as positive — unless you mean “positively brutal.”
