There are calls for justice and accountability in Nigeria after young women were sexually assaulted during a traditional fertility festival. Clips of the violence went viral online, sparking widespread anger, and making #StopRapingWomen trend on social media.
The ‘Alue-Do festival’ is a public event, reputed to help married women seeking to get pregnant — they march to a community shrine to be blessed by a traditional priest. Single women are required to stay indoors.
