Parliament discusses the scenario within the Middle East and prepares for the EU summit
Members of the European Parliament debate the US/Israeli military operation against the Iranian regime, its consequences and the need to support the people of Iran.
As the United States and Israeli air strikes in Iran are ongoing, and Iran continues to respond with missile and drone attacks targeting Israel and other countries in the region with links to the US, Parliament looks closely at the situation. As the President Roberta Metsola stressed from the very first day, the events unfolding in Iran must not lead to a spiral of escalation that could threaten the Middle East.
MEPs will also discuss their expectations for the upcoming EU summit, underlining Commission’s commitment to a “One Europe, one market” roadmap that aims at completing the single market and strengthening Europe’s competitiveness. They will also focus on the EU’s next long-term budget, European defence and security, Ukraine, migration flows and external border protection.
