MEPs assess plans to enhance the EU’s security and preparedness
Growing geopolitical tensions and conflicts, cybersecurity threats and foreign interference.
Parliament will discuss new plans to help the EU face these challenges, improve internal security and boost crisis preparedness. The proposal, to be presented by the European Commission, includes improving intelligence-gathering and the protection of undersea cable infrastructure, enhanced measures against organised crime and drug and firearms trafficking, and a new counter-terrorism agenda.
In a separate debate, MEPs will discuss the Commission’s plans to step up EU preparedness throughout society, including better coordination when it comes to crisis response, protecting essential services, stockpiling critical materials, and improved civil-military cooperation.
