Man Pardoned Over Jan. 6 Capitol Attack Announces Run For U.S. Senate
A man pardoned by President Donald Trump for his role in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol attack announced Wednesday that he plans to run for a U.S. Senate seat.
“Today I am blessed by God to officially announce my candidacy for US Senate in the great State of Florida!!” Edward “Jake” Lang posted on X.
Trump pardoned Lang, who refers to himself as a “January 6 Political Prisoner” on his X page, earlier this year as he waited for his trial on charges related to his role in the 2021 attack.
According to the Justice Department, Lang was caught on video using a bat to strike police as he attempted to enter the U.S. Capitol to help overturn the results of the 2020 election that Trump lost to Joe Biden.
Trump pardoned more than 1,500 other participants in the attack earlier this year.
“WE ARE TAKING OVER THE CAPITOL AGAIN” Lang wrote in his post on X.
Lang, who is originally from New York, said he’ll be seeking Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s former Senate seat. In his statement, Lang said that the MAGA slogan means putting “uncompromising Christians into office.”
During his four-year wait in a D.C. jail, Lang attempted to start a militia group with other prisoners involved in the Capitol attack and created online fundraisers for defendants.
In his post on X, Lang suggested that the time he spent in solitary confinement turned him “into an unbreakable warrior for God’s Kingdom!!”
