Kamala Harris Delivers Moving Eulogy For Jimmy Carter, Whose Dying Wish Was To Vote For Her
Two months after President Jimmy Carter fulfilled his final wish of voting for Kamala Harris, Harris delivered a moving eulogy for the former commander in chief.
The vice president paid tribute to Carter during his lying in state ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, in a speech remembering the late leader’s sincerity and dedication to serving others.
“Jimmy Carter was that all too rare example of a gifted man who also walks with humility, modesty and grace,” she said of the politician, who died at the age of 100 in late December.
Harris celebrated Carter as a “president who was ahead of his time,” as she remarked on his commitment to the environment, public education, international diplomacy, human rights and more.
“Throughout his life and career, Jimmy Carter retained a fundamental decency and humility,” the vice president said.
“James Earl Carter Jr. loved our country. He lived his faith, he served the people and he left the world better than he found it,” she continued. “And in the end, Jimmy Carter’s work and those works speak for him louder than any tribute we can offer.
“May his life be a lesson for the ages and a beacon for the future,” Harris concluded.
Prior to his passing, the former president was an ardent supporter of Harris during her bid for the Oval Office.
In August, the Nobel Prize winner even reportedly told his family he was less concerned about reaching his 100th birthday than “trying to make it” long enough to vote for Harris.
Carter was able to realize that wish in mid-October when son Chip Carter dropped off his dad’s ballot at the Sumter County Courthouse near the president’s hometown of Plains, Georgia.
