The increase of national military budgets is a hot topic in today’s politics – particularly since Donald Trump’s victory in the 2024 US presidential elections.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to withdraw from the NATO alliance, claiming that the other countries are not paying their fair share. And with Russia’s ongoing aggression on Ukraine and China’s recent military buildups near Taiwan, increasing defence spending seems to have become a priority for many EU countries.
