Unai Emery said he is "embarrassed" by how Harvey Elliott’s season has gone on loan at Aston Villa with the Liverpool man making four Premier League appearances across the entire season at Villa Park.
The Villa boss apologised to the 23-year-old for his lack of involvement since joining on loan last summer, after playing just 278 minutes for the club in all competitions.
Ahead of facing Elliott’s parent club Liverpool, live on Sky Sports, on Friday, Emery said: “To now explain about the reason for this decision is very difficult, or it is easy, but it is not the moment.
“My apologies for Harvey Elliott is every day in my mind. But it is [about] responsibility. We have our responsibility and Liverpool have their responsibility.
“It is something, as a human and as a person, how the season has gone has been difficult.”
