Authorities maintain press convention after assault on a Christmas market in Germany | DW News

The death toll from an attack on a Christmas market in Germany has risen to five. There are more than 200 others injured – 40 of those critically. German chancellor Olaf Scholz is in the eastern German city of Magdeburg where the attack took place on Friday evening. Authorities have arrested the suspect, who drove a car through crowds for several hundred metres. He’s a 50 year old doctor from Saudi Arabia who moved to Germany in 2006. He expressed anti-Islam views online and Germany’s interior minister says he is considered as being "Islamophobic".
