‘A Fool’s Errand’: Bill Clinton Warns Trump Against Targeting Hillary Clinton
Bill Clinton on Wednesday said it’d be a “fool’s errand” for President-elect Donald Trump and his FBI director pick Kash Patel to target his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
“I hope he won’t do that,” said Bill Clinton of Trump in an appearance on “The View.”
“Trump, you know, you — most of us get out of this world ahead of where we’d get if all we got was simple justice. And, so it’s normally a fool’s errand to spend a lot of time trying to get even.”
Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in the 2016 presidential election, is one of 60 “corrupt actors” part of the “deep state” that was listed in Patel’s 2023 book “Government Gangsters.”
Patel, a controversial pick for FBI director and a loyalist to the president-elect, is a “deep state” conspiracy theorist who has vowed to prosecute Trump’s enemies in the media as well as the government.
Trump, who has publicly made over 100 threats to go after his perceived foes, echoed his supporters’ “lock her up” call for the former secretary of state’s imprisonment in 2016 before trying to distance himself from the chant this past June.
Sunny Hostin, a co-host of “The View,” cited the “alleged enemies list” before asking Bill Clinton if he thinks it’d be “wise” for President Joe Biden to “preemptively pardon any potential targets” under Trump.
Clinton said the incoming administration would have a “problem” trying to target his wife as she “didn’t do anything wrong,” and “followed the rules exactly as they were written.” He additionally noted that Trump’s State Department found she exchanged “exactly zero classified emails on her personal device.”
Clinton continued, “It was a made-up phony story.”
He’d discuss the topic with Biden should the president express interest in it but he doesn’t think he should give him “public advice on the pardon power,” he added.
“I think it’s too…” Clinton continued, “it’s a very personal thing.”
