Anthropic representatives talk about AI Safety
The committee on the internal market and consumer protection holds an exchange of views with Anthropic representatives on the new artificial intelligence (AI) model, Claude Mythos. Unlike a standard chatbot, Claude Mythos can carry out complex cybersecurity tasks with little human input, such as finding software weaknesses and completing multi-step actions. These capabilities have raised questions about how AI could change cybersecurity and whether current EU rules can keep pace with rapid technological progress.
This discussion follows an initial exchange of views held in May 2026 with the European Commission on AI safety and cybersecurity.
Why it matters for you:
More advanced AI could strengthen online security, but it could also make cyberattacks faster, cheaper and easier if misused. This raises concerns about the security of digital services, critical infrastructure and personal data.
The discussion will examine whether existing EU rules, including the AI Act, are equipped to address these emerging risks while maintaining a consistent approach across all EU countries.
Why it matters for businesses:
The exchange with Anthropic will help MEPs better understand the technology and its potential impact. The aim is to support a coordinated EU approach, avoid different national rules across EU countries and provide greater legal certainty for businesses operating in the Single Market.
