Samsung Slumps After Earnings; Tanker Hit in Hormuz Before NATO Summit | Daybreak Europe 7/7/2026
Bloomberg Daybreak Europe is your essential morning viewing to stay ahead. Live from London, we set the agenda for your day, catching you up with overnight markets news from the US and Asia. And we’ll tell you what matters for investors in Europe, giving you insight before trading begins.
On today’s show, trading on South Korea’s Kospi was halted briefly after a sharp fall. Samsung led the decline, dropping as much a 10% despite a 19-fold surge in quarterly profit. Futures point to a lower open in Europe and the US.
Oil edged higher after a tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz reported being hit. Bloomberg understands it was an LNG carrier owned by Qatar’s state-owned shipping company. Separately, Axios reported Iran fired at least two missiles at commercial ships transiting the strait.
Plus a French court is due to rule in Marine Le Pen’s appeal against her conviction for embezzlement. The decision will impact whether she can stand in the 2027 presidential election.
And US President Donald Trump is heading to the NATO Summit in Turkey, where he’ll meet Ukraine’s President Zelenskyy on Wednesday.
Today’s guest: Anna Macdonald, Hargreaves Lansdown, Investment Strategy Director.
