Bowen Yang revealed why he decided to leave Saturday Night Live mid-season. "I never felt like I was that central to it, to be honest,” the comedian said of his on SNL during the June 8 episode of Variety’s Actors on Actors series with Rachel Sennott. "I never played the dad or the straight-man teacher." While Yang wanted to leave after season 50, he said creator Lorne Michaels persuaded him to stay for a few more episodes to "set an example” for incoming cast members. “It was the first time I felt someone who made so many things possible for me being like, ‘I need you,’” he continued. “I’m like, ‘I’m not going to turn that down.’” Yang’s final episode aired in December, featuring host Ariana Grande and musical guest Cher.
