Does the EU-Mercosur commerce deal compromise the surroundings?
"I can understand that the farmers don’t want competition, but I have lot of troubles understanding those who speak for the environment to be against an agreement that will reinforce cooperation and coordination with our countries," Pedro Miguel da Costa e Silva, Brazil’s ambassador to the EU, told Méabh Mc Mahon commenting on the EU-Mercosur trade deal.
The agreement creates a 700 million-person free-trade area. But some European farmers, environmental activists and non-governmental organisations have concerns.
