‘Arctic Sentry’ — NATO’s plans to spice up its navy presence within the far North | DW News
NATO defense ministers are arriving in Brussels, gearing up to discuss their new mission – "Arctic Sentry". NATO Chief Mark Rutte will be chairing the talks, as the alliance puts plans in place to boost its military presence in the far north. The deployment is an effort to smooth over a recent rift between the US and other NATO allies over Donald Trump’s plans to annex Greenland. US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is represented by Under Secretary Elbridge Colby, making it the second time a US Cabinet official has skipped a high-level NATO meeting in recent months. Germany’s defense minister has welcomed the mission, saying that Germany will initially contribute four Eurofighter jets.
