Zohran Mamdani says he nonetheless believes Trump is a ‘fascist’ after cordial White House assembly: Latest

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene responded to reports that she has considered running for president in 2028.
Time Magazine reported Saturday that Greene privately told allies that she has considered running for president. This comes after the Republican announced she’s resigning from the House in January amid her ongoing feud with President Donald Trump.
Greene responded to Time Magazine’s report directly on Sunday, writing in a lengthy rant on X that she’s “not running for President” and never said she wanted to. The Republican went on to blast the so-called “Political Industrial Complex,” claiming it has “destroyed our country.”
Meanwhile, Trump has called for Democrats who urged the military to defy illegal orders to be jailed in a pair of late-night Truth Social posts.
This comes after a group of Democratic lawmakers published a video telling members of the military and intelligence community to “refuse illegal orders” on Tuesday. Trump claimed Thursday it was “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” and in another post claimed such behavior is “punishable by DEATH.”
The Democratic lawmakers responded to Trump’s threats on Thursday, writing that what’s “most telling is that the President considers it punishable by death for us to restate the law.” Trump later claimed he was “not threatening death,” but thinks “they’re in serious trouble.”
White House proposed $50M reward leaflet drop over Venezuela capital to ramp up pressure on Maduro regime
The White House proposed having U.S. military planes drop leaflets over Venezuela’s capital in an operation aimed at intensifying pressure on the country’s president, Nicolás Maduro, according to a report.
In what could soon be the latest U.S. escalation against Venezuela, the reported plan entails planes dispersing leaflets in Caracas that contain details about the $50 million reward for information leading to Maduro’s arrest and conviction, sources told the Washington Post.
The psychological operation, which has not yet been authorized, could take place as soon as Sunday to coincide with Maduro’s 63rd birthday, the paper reported.

Sen. Rand Paul denounces Trump’s threats to Democratic lawmakers over military video
Senator Rand Paul, a Republican, appeared to address President Donald Trump’s response to the six Democrats who filmed a video urging the military to “refuse illegal orders” this week.
Trump claimed Thursday the video was “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” and in another post claimed such behavior is “punishable by DEATH.” Trump went on to label them “TRAITORS” on Saturday night.
CBS News’ Margaret Brennan asked Paul about Trump’s “dangerous rhetoric” on Sunday.
“You know, everybody knows that the President is famous for his unfiltered social media,” Paul said. “But if you take at face value the idea that calling your opponents traitors and then specifically saying that it warrants the death penalty is reckless, inappropriate, irresponsible, there are a number of other ways to describe it, but it’s not something that is helping the country heal wounds.”
“I think it stirs things up and- and really, I think we can do better,” he added.
Trump lashes out at Ukrainian officials
President Donald Trump lashed out at Ukrainian officials Sunday over the ongoing war, claiming there has been a lack of “gratitude” for U.S. efforts.
This comes even after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he’s “grateful for the attention and willingness to work together with us and our partners” after meeting with U.S. officials on Friday. Zelensky has also repeatedly thanked U.S. leaders for their efforts since the war began in 2022.
“The War between Russia and Ukraine is a violent and terrible one that, with strong and proper U.S. and Ukrainian LEADERSHIP, would have NEVER HAPPENED,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“UKRAINE ‘LEADERSHIP’ HAS EXPRESSED ZERO GRATITUDE FOR OUR EFFORTS, AND EUROPE CONTINUES TO BUY OIL FROM RUSSIA,” he later added.
Ukrainian and U.S. officials are meeting in Geneva today to discuss a U.S.-backed proposal to end the war in Ukraine.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio told reporters that today’s talks were “the most productive and meaningful meeting so far in this entire process since we’ve been involved,” according to CNN.
Mamdani says he still believes Trump is a ‘threat to democracy’
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani has responded to questions over whether he still believes President Donald Trump is a “threat to democracy” after meeting with him at the White House on Friday.
The question came from NBC News’ Kristen Welker.
“Everything that I’ve said in the past, I continue to believe — and that’s the thing that I think is important in our politics, is that we don’t shy away from where we have disagreements, but we understand what it is that brings us to that table,” Mamdani replied.
Rep. Crockett claims MTG ‘can’t take the heat’
Representative Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat, reacted Sunday to Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s surprise announcement that she’s resigning.
Greene, a Republican, announced Friday she’s resigning from the House in January amid her growing feud with President Donald Trump.
“You’re on the other side of the president for one week, and you can’t take the heat?” Crockett said on CNN’s State of the Union.
“Imagine what it is to sit in my shoes, to not only be on the opposite side of him, but to have people like her who are constantly fanning the flames of hate. Imagine what those threats look like when you literally are someone like me,” she added.
MTG refutes reports she’s preparing for a presidential run
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene refuted a Time Magazine report claiming the Republican lawmaker privately told her allies she was considering running for president in 2028.
“I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it,” Greene wrote on X.
Time Magazine cited two unnamed sources who spoke directly with Greene, and three unnamed sources who were familiar with her thinking.
Greene announced Friday she’s resigning from the House at the start of next year amid her growing feud with President Donald Trump.

Bessent criticizes Democratic lawmakers over order urging military to ‘refuse illegal orders’
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent criticized the Democratic lawmakers who published a video this week telling members of the military and intelligence community that they must “refuse illegal orders.”
“What I am confident of is that this was a display of gross, gross negligence,” Bessent said Sunday on NBC News’ Meet the Press. He did not answer a question about whether the Trump administration is issuing illegal orders.
“There is one commander in chief, and when you step outside of the chain of command and try to create the noise and chaos, that only helps our enemies,” he added.
Trump wants to ‘free’ Colorado woman convicted in election interference case
“FREE TINA PETERS, WHO SITS IN A COLORADO PRISON, DYING & OLD, FOR ATTEMPTING TO EXPOSE VOTER FRAUD IN THE RIGGED 2O20 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION!!!” Trump wrote Sunday on Truth Social.
There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election, which Joe Biden won.
Trump cannot pardon Peters or commute her sentence because she received a state conviction, Colorado Public Radio reports.
The Trump administration asked to transfer Peters into federal custody this week, a move opposed by state officials, according to Colorado Public Radio.
