Update: Death toll rises to 5, greater than 200 injured, many critically | DW News

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited the scene of the tragedy in Magdeburg and called the attack a "terrible, insane act". There is no more peaceful and cheerful place than a Christmas market, Scholz said at the scene in Magdeburg.
He called for a full investigation of the crime. It is now important to investigate with precision and accuracy, Scholz said. "Nothing must remain uninvestigated – and that is how it will be". The perpetrator, his actions and motives must be accurately understood and the criminal consequences must be applied.
Scholz also called for social cohesion.
