Cyclone Chido leaves a path of devastation on island of Mayotte | DW News
Cyclone Chido has killed hundreds in the French overseas territory of Mayotte. Authorities in Mayotte predict that even thousands might be dead as a result of the the cyclone. The tiny island in the Indian Ocean, between Madagascar and the African mainland, was already France’s poorest overseas territory, even before it was devastated by Cyclone Chido. The megastorm has been described as the worst in nearly a century. Authorities there say they are also worried about access to food, water and sanitation for survivors.
