Kupiansk: A city taken by Russia and reclaimed by Ukraine as soon as once more underneath Russian assault | DW News

Ukraine says its forces have repelled an advance on Kupiansk in the eastern Donetsk region, beating back an attack by Russian infantry. Kupiansk is a strategic rail hub close to the Russian border. Russia occupied the city in the first months of its 2022 invasion before Ukraine reclaimed it later that same year. Russia’s attempt to once again advance in Kupiansk comes after Moscow escalated its attacks on other parts of Ukraine and launched its first missile attack on Kyiv in months. Ukraine’s military said it eliminated all Russian troops that breached its lines.
