Transfer information reside: Chelsea deal collapses on deadline day, Arsenal shut in on Zubimendi, Gyokeres to Man Utd
The transfer window has reached deadline day to enable transfers to be made ahead of the summer’s Club World Cup. The window closes at 7pm tonight, before re-opening on June 16 until September 1.
Arsenal hope to bring in Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, amid reported interest from Real Madrid, and Mikel Arteta has sanctioned talks with RB Leipzig over striker Benjamin Sesko in their ongoing pursuit for a No 9.
Chelsea have been rebuffed in their efforts to sign Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens, and have also walked away from a potential deal for AC Milan and France No 1 Mike Maignan and will head to the Club World Cup with their current goalkeepers.
Manchester United have already secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, and are negotiating with Brentford over Bryan Mbeumo with Viktor Gyokeres also on the list of wanted strikers. Captain Bruno Fernandes also provided a boost by turning down a lucrative move to Saudi Arabia.
Manchester City have made their first summer signing by completing a €37m (£31.6m) deal to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves, while also agreeing a fee to sign AC Milan midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and Lyon’s Rayan Cherki.
Liverpool have also been busy putting in a club-record bid for Bayer Leverkusen‘s Florian Wirtz while goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has left for Brentford. The Reds also wrapped up a deal to bring Jeremie Frimpong to Anfield by triggering his £29.5m release clause.

Wrexham target Ward
Wrexham are in talks with Leicester over a possible deal for goalkeeper Danny Ward.
Discussions are thought to be in the early stages.
The 31-year-old Ward has 44 caps for Wales and would bring experience to Wrexham’s squad as they look to perform strongly in the Championship.
Everton in talks to keep Calvert-Lewin
Everton have confirmed new deals have been offered to captain Seamus Coleman and midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye.
They are also negotiating with defender Michael Keane and striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin over the prospect of extending their stays at the club.
Calvert-Lewin and Keane are both out of contract at the end of June.

Dortmund reject Chelsea offer
Borussia Dortmund have rejected an offer from Chelsea for winger Jamie Gittens.
According to a Sky Sports report, the Bluesbid an initial €35m (£29.5m) which was rejected by Borussia Dortmund.

Cresswell, Ings and Zouma leaving West Ham
West Ham have announced their retained list and there are some big departures from the club.
Left-back Aaron Cresswell, goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, right-back Vladimir Coufal, striker Danny Ings and centre-back Kurt Zouma will formally depart the club.
The Hammers will look to rebuild but the departures of four of the above players – Zouma excluded – were all expected.

Chelsea walk away from Maignan deal
Chelsea will not be making a deal for Mike Maignan.
They were offered the goalkeeper from AC Milan and valued him at between €10m and €15m.
There was no official bid for the player but negotiations did not go well with the Blues never considering to pay more than their valuation.
They are happy with the goalkeepers in their squad and would have taken Maignan as a financially sound deal but are now looking to strengthen elsewhere.

West Ham still to make decision on Antonio
West Ham United are still to make a decision on Michail Antonio’s future after a serious road traffic accident in December required the striker to undergo surgery.
A club statement release on Monday read: “As a long-serving, highly-respected player, and a much-loved member of the West Ham family, the club’s absolute priority at this time is to support Michail personally in his journey to resume playing at the highest level.”
Antonio’s contract runs out on June 30th and the club added: “There will be no formal decision and announcement on his future until such time that it is considered right and appropriate.
“However, as his current contract is also due to expire on 30 June, for the purposes of the Premier League Retained List procedure at the end of the 2024/25 season, Michail will be listed as a free transfer.”
Jobe Bellingham joins Dortmund!
Jobe Bellingham has completed a move to Borussia Dortmund.
The deal is worth an initial £27.8m (€33m) and includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause.
It is the highest transfer fee Sunderland have ever received and the second-highest Dortmund have paid.
There are also around £4.2m worth of add ons in the deal half of those said to be easily achievable.
Bellingham’s brother Jude played for the Bundesliga club for three seasons and Jobe now follows in his footsteps.
Last season, Jobe helped Sunderland secure promotion back to the Premier League through the Championship play-off final after eight years away from the top flight.

The striker posted a montage clip of his recovery on his Instagram page on Sunday (8 June), with the caption “Faith will overcome all challenges”.
The video opens with an image of the car crash wreckage, before the striker is seen in a hospital bed, and then using a walking frame, supported by nurses.
He is later seen entering the club gym on crutches as his recovery continues.
Crystal Palace’s European dream is at risk – it’s time for football to wake up
Steve Parish’s face at Uefa this week probably said enough. He didn’t need to repeat a view he has pressed on people in private – and now to Uefa executives in Nyon – that Crystal Palace are technically not part of a multi-club ownership.
