Syrian insurgent fighters set hearth to tomb of Assad’s father | DW News
According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor these images show rebel fighters watching the tomb of ousted Syrian president Bashar Assad’s father Hafez burn in his hometown of Qardaha.
The monitor told AFP the rebels had set fire to the mausoleum, located in the Latakia heartland of Assad’s Alawite community.
Hafez Assad ruled Syria with an iron fist for 30 years.
He was succeeded by his son Bashar when he died in 2000.
