Phillip Schofield has been dropped by his agent after the TV host admitted to lying about an affair with a This Morning employee.
The news comes a week after he quit the series with immediate effect amid reports of a “feud” with his co-star, Holly Willoughby.
His admission has sent shockwaves across the British TV industry, with former ITV employees Eamonn Holmes, Piers Morgan and Carol McGiffin among the stars to share their reactions online, with the former stating “blimey” with an embarrassed-face emoji.
On Friday (26 May), Schofield said: “It is with the most profound regret that after 35 years of being faultlessly managed by YMU I have agreed to step down from their representation with immediate effect.”
He then released a statement to the Daily Mail, explaining that he had an “unwise” but “consensual on-off relationship with someone working on This Morning” while he was married.
Schofield also revealed he has officially cut ties with ITV altogether. An ITV spokesperson said the channel felt “badly let down” by Schofield, and accepted his resignation.

On Friday (26 May), Phillip Schofield admitted to lying about an affair with a colleague on This Morning.
The news comes less than a week after he dramatically quit the show he presented alongside Holly Willoughby amid rumours of a feud between the two.
In a statement to the Daily Mail, Schofield said: “I did have a consensual on-off relationship with a younger male colleague at This Morning.
“In an effort to protect my ex-colleague I haven’t been truthful about the relationship.”

Eamonn Holmes reacts
Eamonn Holmes has reacted furiously to Phillip Schofield’s This Morning affair admission.
On Twitter, in response to a video showing Holmes supporting Schofield when he came out as gay live on This Morning in 2020, he claimed that Schofield had “lied” and “deceived” him and his wife, Ruth Langsford.
“One day I will tell the story,” he said, adding: “We had no issue with him being gay, only support. What transpired took us for fools. The man told us complete lies and we unfortunately believed him.”

ITV accepts Schofield’s resignation
ITV has confirmed it has accepted Phillip Schofield’s resignation.
The host, who quit This Morning last weekend, was set to host the British Soap Awards in June.
However, he has stepped down from the channel altogether after admitting ti lying to his employers about an affair he had with a This Morning colleague.
“Phillip made assurances to us which he now acknowledges were untrue and we feel badly let down,” a channel spokesperon said, adding: “We accept his resignation from ITV and therefore can confirm that he will not be appearing on ITV as had previously been stated.”

This Morning’s consumer presenter Alice Beer has reacted to Phillip Schofield’s admission.
Beer, who has been on the show since 2014, said she is “sad and angry” by the host’s revelation that he “lied” about an affair he had with a colleague.

A spokesperson for ITV said the broadcaster was “deeply disappointed by the admissions of deceit made tonight by Phillip Schofield” after the presenter admitted to an affair with a young This Morning colleague.
They added in a statement: “The relationships we have with those we work with are based on trust.”
