Up to 80% of the weapons seized from Mexican cartels are believed to come from the United States. Every year, an estimated 135,000 guns are trafficked south across the border — often bought legally in US stores before being smuggled into Mexico. The Mexican government has repeatedly called on the US to put a stop to the smuggling. So far, experts say the US government isn’t doing enough.
