Ukraine’s drone battle: Forcing Russia to the desk? | To the purpose

The Ukraine war was never supposed to last this long. When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, many experts predicted Kyiv would fall within days. More than four years later, the war has turned into a brutal stalemate and drones are changing everything.
With Western support and rapidly evolving drone warfare, Ukraine is holding the line against Russia. Cheap, mass-produced unmanned systems now dominate the battlefield, shaping strategy, targeting, and even preventing major breakthroughs. In many areas, drones have become the defining weapon of this war, reinforcing a deadly war of attrition.
At the same time, Russia continues its devastating air campaign, launching waves of missiles and drones against Ukrainian cities like Kyiv – causing massive destruction and civilian casualties.
