Trump says son’s go to to Greenland was a ‘love fest’

President-elect Donald Trump said his son Donald Trump Jr. and his representatives got a great reception when they landed in Greenland.

“We got applause as we landed yesterday,” he told reporters while visiting the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday.

“It was like a love fest,” he said.

The younger Mr. Trump and others landed in Greenland on Tuesday for a one-day private visit to shoot footage for his podcast. He was not scheduled to meet any political or governmental figures, either Danish or Greenlandic.

The elder Mr. Trump has repeatedly said the United States should acquire Greenland for “national security purposes,” an idea that he also raised in his first administration.

During a news conference Tuesday, he would not rule out using military force to obtain the Danish territory. The United States and Denmark and military allies as members of NATO.

“I’m not going to commit to that,” Mr. Trump said when asked if he’d rule out the use of military force Tuesday.

“It might be that you’ll have to do something. The Panama Canal is vital to our country. We need Greenland for national security purposes,” he said.
