President Donald Trump lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) as he demanded the legislator apologize for saying “nobody respects” Border Patrol or Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Wow! Cryin’ Chuck Schumer just said, for the whole World to hear, that ‘NOBODY RESPECTS BORDER PATROL OR ICE,’” the president posted on Truth Social.

“That is one of the most egregious, incorrect, unpatriotic, and dangerous statements I have EVER heard from a ‘professional’ politician,” he went on. “HE MUST IMMEDIATELY APOLOGIZE TO THESE GREAT PATRIOTS, AND I MEAN NOW!”

Schumer made the disparaging comments about immigration authorities Wednesday while opposing Senate Republicans’ push to fund the Department of Homeland Security after a monthslong shutdown.

On Tuesday, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin announced that the agency was set to run out of money to cover its payroll by the first week of May.

He accused Democrats of “putting homeland at risk” with their February decision to block funding to the department as they demanded reforms in response to public uproar over agents fatally shooting two American citizens in January in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

DHS employees, which include the Transportation Security Administration agents who oversee U.S. airports, were forced to work without pay for weeks before Trump directed the department to tap into $10 billion allocated to border security in the Republican-backed spending package that was passed last July.
