Trump met with huge applause at NCAA wrestling finals in Philadelphia: Live updates
Trump says he was ‘told’ that Venezuelans deported to El Salvador ‘went through a very strong vetting process.’

PresidentDonald Trump was greeted by a wildly supportive crowd when he arrived at the NCAA men’s wrestling championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on Saturday evening – his first return to the state since he won it in the presidential election.

“We’re going to the big fight. The reason I’m going is in Philadelphia. They have the NCAA, world, wrestling for college. And I’ve always supported the wrestlers,” Trump told reporters as he left the White House on Friday evening.

Trump’s right-hand man, Elon Musk, as well as Representative Jim Jordan and Senators Dave McCormick and Markwayne Mullin were also in attendance in the president’s floor-level booth.

It is the second time in three years the president has attended the NCAA wrestling championships and the latest sports-related trip Trump has embarked on since he took office. Trump attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans and the Daytona 500 in Florida.

Trump is a fan of attending public sporting events and has often used them to bolster his political persona.

Before attending the fight in Pennslyvania, the president flew to New Jersey to spend time at his golf club in Bedminster. The president has used most of his weekends to play golf at his club in Mar-a-Lago

Republican Congresswoman urges Trump to allow migrants “protections” they were promised

Republican Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar is urging Donald Trump to allow Central and South American migrants who entered the country under a “humanitarian parole” during the Biden administration to stay in the U.S. and enjoy the protections they were promised.

Salazar made the comments in a post on X and avoided criticizing Trump’s draconian actions towards migrants by blaming everything on former President Joe Biden and “failed communist regimes.”

On Saturday, Trump announced he was revoking the protections for 530,000 migrants who traveled to the U.S. from Cuba, Venezuela, Haiti, Nicaragua, and other parts of Central and South America.

Salazar’s post, translated from Spanish, appears below:

“Trump is correcting the immigration mess left by Biden. There’s no doubt: the legal limbo Cubans, Venezuelans, Haitians, and Nicaraguans face today is a direct consequence of the Biden administration’s empty promises. These people fled failed communist regimes hoping to find freedom and opportunity in the United States, only to be betrayed by incoherent and mismanaged policies. The Trump administration should acknowledge this reality and not punish them for Biden’s mistakes. Let’s give them the opportunity to access the protections they were promised.”

Venezuela says it will resume accepting U.S. deportation flights

Venezuela said on Saturday it would resume accepting deportation flights from the United States after reaching an agreement with the Trump administration after the president invoked the Alien and Enemies Act in order to expedite the removal of Venezeulans to prison in El Salvador.

“Migration isn’t a crime, and we will not rest until we achieve the return of all of those in need and rescue our brothers kidnapped in El Salvador,” a representative for the Venezuelan government said in a statement obtained by the New York Times.

Trump had invoked the Alien and Enemies Act of 1798 to deport Venezuelan migrants, who he claimed were members of the gang Tren de Araguas, without due process. A federal judge placed a temporary injunction on the flights.

It is unclear who was on the flights or if they are members of the Venezuelan gang. Officials admitted that many of the individuals do not have criminal records.
