Honduras has declared Conservative Nasry Asfura the winner of the presidential election, more than three weeks after voters cast their ballots.
Asfura – who was backed by US president Donald Trump – finished less than ONE percentage point ahead of his closest rival for the presidency. Minutes after the election commission announced the results, Washington welcomed Asfura’s win, saying it will help stop illegal immigration. But the slow count has sparked claims of irregularities and voter fraud, and the opposition has not recognized Asfura’s victory. He is slated to take office on January 27th.
