The United Nation’s envoy for Sudan has called for a humanitarian ceasefire, on the anniversary of a devastating civil war that is entering its fourth year.
A new UN report says nearly two‑thirds of the population urgently need aid, with over 150,000 killed and more than 11 million displaced since fighting began in 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. Poverty has reached levels unseen since the 1980s, with famine looming.
Meeting in Berlin, international leaders urged an immediate humanitarian truce to revive talks and mobilize aid for a conflict many say is being forgotten.
