Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-Ga.) condemned President Donald Trump’s hypocrisy and the “cruelty and chaos” being inflicted by his administration at the “Rally for Our Republic” in Atlanta this weekend.

The senator’s remarks quickly went viral on social media.

Ossoff called out Trump’s populist messaging by flagging the vast wealth of his Cabinet, which is the wealthiest ever even without including tech billionaire Elon Musk, the special government employee who Trump has tasked with gutting public spending via the nonofficial Department of Government Efficiency.

“They are literally the elites they pretend to hate,” Ossoff said.

Ossoff: Trump’s cabinet is worth like $60 billion. That’s not even including Elon. They are literally the elites they pretend to hate.

“The president is not at his palace in Florida thinking about whether you can afford day care for your daughter or how to stop insurance companies from denying your claim, or anything that matters to our daily lives,” he continued. “When is the last time you even heard Donald Trump talk about health care or child care? He’s talking about invading Greenland.”

When Ossoff next mentioned Musk’s name, he drew loud boos from the crowd.

“By the way, I’m all for government efficiency,” Ossoff said, acknowledging that “government programs” are not “sacred” and have to work. But the Trump administration’s haphazard firing of employees who later turn out to be essential staffers is “not efficiency” but “just cruelty and chaos,” he said.
