Parliament and Council negotiators reached a provisional deal on 1 June to make return procedures faster and more effective, while respecting fundamental rights and international law. The agreement includes clearer obligations for rejected asylum seekers to cooperate with authorities, stricter rules for persons posing a security risk and rules on transfers to non-EU countries under specific conditions. The deal needs to be formally adopted by Parliament and Council before entering into force.
