Mali’s president Assimi Goita met with the Russian ambassador on Tuesday, in his first appearance since the defense minister was killed in attacks on several cities over the weekend. Reports said jihadis and Tuareg separatists were advancing in northern Mali on April 28, three days after launching joint attacks against the ruling junta. The government’s Russian allies said the situation remained "difficult", as Mali’s military leaders said it was under control.
