Lindsey Vonn detailed the terrifying moments after her crash at the 2026 Winter Olympics, revealing she nearly lost her leg. On Feb. 23, the Olympic legend took to Instagram to share the full extent of her injuries following her devastating fall in Milano Cortina. In addition to a tibial fracture, the 41‑year‑old explained she also suffered a tibial plateau fracture and fractured fibula head, injuries far more severe than originally understood. In her video, Lindsey revealed she developed compartment syndrome, a dangerous condition caused by extreme trauma to the leg. As she put it, the buildup of pressure “basically crushes everything in the compartment,” risking permanent damage, or even amputation. She credited orthopedic surgeon Dr. Tom Hackett with saving her leg, explaining that he happened to be on-site only because she had torn her ACL shortly before the Games.
