Donald Trump’s ex-national security adviser John Bolton on Sunday suggested the president’s threats toward Iran could prove sour for his administration as the U.S. negotiating team heads to another round of peace talks in Pakistan.
“I think they can see Trump wants out of this. He’s just — he’s broadcasting it almost every day. And it gives the Iranians enormous leverage,” Bolton said in an interview with CNN’s Jessica Dean.
The comments from Bolton — a frequent Trump critic since the president pushed him out of the first administration — arrived on the same day that Trump declared there’d be “NO MORE MR. NICE GUY” while claiming that the U.S. was offering Iran a “very fair and reasonable DEAL.”
“I hope they take it because, if they don’t, the United States is going to knock out every single Power Plant, and every single Bridge, in Iran,” Trump wrote, renewing his threats to destroy civilian infrastructure.
