Vance: Here’s the thing. The cameras are all on; anything I say, no matter how crazy, she has to smile, laugh, and celebrate it. pic.twitter.com/KO36G1D7ju

“I think she’s doing a great job as second lady of the United States, and I’m so proud to have her by my side.”
“And here’s the thing, ’cause the cameras are all on, anything that I say, no matter how crazy, Usha has to smile and laugh and celebrate,” he said gesturing backward toward her.
The clip of Vance’s comment has received over 10 million views, and some people online have been really weirded out by it. “every time he tries to be funny or personable, it’s the scariest thing I’ve ever seen,” this person said.
Another person said, “This reeks of the whole misogynist ‘I got a silent, agreeable woman’ trope so bad. No president or VP we’ve had in the past would ever have said this sentence on a public stage.”
“Definitely a real man who has no insecurities whatsoever about women,” this person agreed.
“JD Vance saying his wife has to ‘smile, laugh, and celebrate’ whatever he says—no matter how crazy—is straight-up creepy. Political spouses who just sit there grinning like puppets aren’t admirable. They’re useless. And it’s 2025. Women aren’t props.”
“Making fun of your wife is not the flex you think it is @JDVance”
And this person summed up the entire interaction, “Just the way the GOP likes their women, subservient, docile and obedient.”
