Rescuers are scrambling to find survivors trapped under the rubble of buildings and bridges, after Myanmar and Thailand were hit by a powerful earthquake. The epicenter of the magnitude 7.7 quake was near Myanmar’s second biggest city, Mandalay which is home to more than 1.5 million people. An analysis by the US Geological Survey indicates that thousands of people could have been killed in Myanmar- but the official death toll in the country at this point is 144. The tremor also shook neighboring Thailand, where at least 9 were killed and dozens more are missing.
