Ash clouds towered into the sky in the distance as some 1,700 people sought shelter after Guatemala’s Fuego volcano erupted, according to the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction. Authorities warned of dangerous mudflows as residents described the fear of fleeing their homes while worrying about looting.
