More than 80 actors, directors, and writers who are current or former participants of the Berlinale, Germany’s Berlin International Film Festival, have signed an open letter criticizing the organization for its “institutional silence” and “censorship” regarding the war in Gaza.
The letter was issued in response to comments by the head of this year’s festival jury, German filmmaker Wim Wenders, who last week addressed a journalist’s question about the festival’s lack of a public statement on Gaza by saying that the festival “should stay out of politics.”
