Malaysia’s former prime minister has been sentenced to an additional 15 years in jail, after being convicted on corruption charges. It’s the biggest trial yet in the scandal surrounding Malaysia’s sovereign wealth fund which was set up to promote economic development. A court found Najib Razak guilty on all 25 counts of abuse of power and money laundering. Prosecutors said Najib abused his position to move huge sums of money into his personal bank accounts. Najib was a co-founder of the 1MDB development fund in 2009, and chaired its advisory board until 2016.
