Arsenal visit Everton in the Premier League knowing they have to win on Merseyside to keep any pressure on Liverpool in the title race.
While Mikel Arteta’s side are certain to be runners-up, the Gunners have the chance to trim Liverpool’s advantage to nine points ahead of their trip to Fulham tomorrow. The Reds required Diogo Jota’s goal at Anfield on Wednesday to end Everton’s unbeaten run under David Moyes and Arsenal will have to match that result.
But the visitors may be forgiven for looking ahead to Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final against Real Madrid at the Emirates, in what appears to be their best chance of winning a trophy this season. Arteta’s side were lifted by Bukayo Saka’s return in the midweek win against Fulham, but lost Gabriel to a season-ending injury.

Arsenal have looked pretty comfortable in the closing stages of this half, and they lead at the break.

49 mins: Trossard wants another! He initially outsprints Tarkowski but the defender makes a sliding challenge to deny him; Pickford is right there but collides with Trossard making the clearance. Rice attempts to score the rebound but Tarkowski again is there with a brilliant block.
The Belgina international is down again.

45 mins: Good from Nwaneri, who ducks and darts down the right – but under pressure from Patterson he hoofs an angled cross over the bar.

43 mins: We’ll have at least four minutes added on to this half for that delay. Merino has had his head slathered in copious amounts of vaseline but returns to the pitch.
Lots of booing from the stands as Trossard goes down next, but he’s back up quickly.

Everton immediately try to get a response, with Doucoure cutting back with Raya off his line, but Saliba ducks in to clear.
O’Brien aims to head in a cross but clashes heads with Merino. Both players are receiving some attention.

34 mins: Sloppy, sloppy defending from Everton. Patterson curls in a cross, it’s headed away and falls to Gueye, but he knocks it down into the path of Sterling.
He plays a one-two with Trossard on the edge of the box and he fires it perfectly past Pickford into the far corner!

Not a classic so far. If it remains the same, it will be intriguing to see which of the benched regulars Mikel Arteta introduces. Presumably, as Bukayo Saka has only made one appearance in his comeback, he will need minutes ahead of Madrid. Martin Odegaard does not, so it will be a test how much Arteta wants to win this one if he keeps his captain out of action.
